A MAN from Yate has been ordered to pay more than £700 for assaulting a police officer.
Matthew Newman, aged 39, of Chargrove, Yate, assaulted a police sergeant on August 13 last year in Tewkesbury.
Newman did not appear at a previous hearing at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on March 29, where he was found guilty in his absence.
A warrant issued by police at the time has now been withdrawn.
He was charged under the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and the Assaults on Emergency Workers Act 2018 as well as the Bail Act 1976.
He has been fined £340, must pay compensation in £100, a victim surcharge of £136 and costs of £150 - bringing the total to £726.
Another hearing was held at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Thursday, June 24.
