A BROADBAND provider has issued a roadworks warning for the Cam and Dursley area as part of a scheme to improve internet speeds.

Work has started to get underway to connect the area to superfast full fibre broadband as part of a £130 million infrastructure boost for Gloucestershire.

Work is already underway in Cam to connect 2,700 properties to broadband provider Gigaclear’s network. Meanwhile, work is beginning to start in Dursley.

Once completed, the entire scheme will see a total of 5,000 homes connected to faster broadband by the time work is finished in autumn 2024.

The first homes in Cam are expected to have access to Gigaclear’s full fibre broadband in September. While, Dursley residents will start being connected at the end of the year.

During the work, Gigaclear say they will be utilising existing Openreach ducts and poles wherever possible in order to "minimise disruption".

Delivery director Charlie Freed said: “There are many great benefits to living in rural locations such as Dursley but having access to faster broadband is not one of the things people automatically expect.

“This is because, on average, people living in towns and cities enjoy much faster speeds than people in rural communities and Ofcom says that divide is growing.

“Gigaclear's mission is to address this gap and bring full fibre faster speeds to residents in rural villages and towns so they’re able to work from home, stream online entertainment, scroll and gameplay just like everyone else.”
