AN AMAZING schoolgirl from Yate has started a unique challenge to travel 100 miles around the area using a combination of different wheels in memory of her great-grandfather.

Ava Osgood, aged 8, has begun a special fundraiser to travel around her local area on various modes of transport including her bike, scooter, or rollerblades.

The fundraiser is in memory of Ava's great-grandfather, Neville Carter, also known as Bamf, who sadly died from cancer at the age of 74 just before Ava was born.

She hopes to complete 100 miles by the end of the month and has so far raised more than £600 for Cancer Research UK. Ava’s original goal was £200.

Ava said: “I recently found out what cancer was and how it affects a lot of people I know, so I asked my parents to look up ideas for me to help raise charity for Cancer Research.

“I am aware of charity and how it helps people because last year some of my friends took part in charity walks, and I also want to help people.

"For the fundraiser, I wanted to use my ice skating skills and use my rollerblades and other wheels too.

“I plan to do three miles a day, so I can have a rest. But I sometimes do six miles a day.

“We have a green outside of our house so I do laps around it and sometimes my friends join me. 15 laps around both greens outside my house is three miles.

“Bamf died of cancer, just before I was born. I'm sad I never met him.”
