DRIVERS are facing delays along the M32 this morning due to an overturned lorry. 

The M32 is closed southbound between M4 J19 and J1 near Hambrook, after a lorry carrying sand and stone overturned.

During the incident, the vehicle’s fuel tank also ruptured sending diesel across the carriageway. 

Currently, there is no time estimate for when the carriageway will reopen.

There are delays and congestion on the M4 westbound between J18 at Tormarton and J20 near the M5 at Almondsbury.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The M32 is closed southbound between M4 J19 and J1 near Hambrook due to an overturned lorry.

“Recovery of the lorry is now complete but a large amount of stone and sand, which was being transported by the lorry, remains across the carriageway and needs to be cleared.

“The vehicles fuel tank was also ruptured during the incident, resulting in a large diesel spillage. 

“Once clear up of the debris and diesel has taken place, the carriageway will need inspecting for any damage caused by the diesel spillage.

“At present there is no estimate for when the carriageway will reopen.

“To assist with traffic flow the M4 J19 westbound exit and a section of the J19 roundabout have been closed.

“Lane 3 (of 3) is also closed on the M32 northbound between J1 and M4 due to the debris from the collision.

“Gloucestershire Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers and National Highways Service Providers are on scene to assist with traffic management and clear up works.”

Road users are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs.

  • Exit the M5 at J16 and take the third exit onto the A38 to Filton.
  • At the A38 Filton roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A4174
  • Follow the A4174 and take the 3rd exit to rejoin the M32.
