DOZENS of sixth form students in Thornbury received their A Level results today, Thursday, August 17.
There were a number of impressive grades achieved at The Castle School Sixth Form, which includes both The Castle School and Marlwood School.
Headteacher Joe Docherty said many of their students gained results “beyond their expectations”.
The average grade achieved across the cohort of 151 students was a C+ for the A Level courses and a merit for the vocational courses.
Some of the highest achievers were Richard Usherwood with four A* grades, Amy Lyons with three A* grades plus an A* in her EPQ, Bethany Hyndman with four A grades and Zoe Bonnett with two A* and two A grades.
Both Richard and Amy have places at the University of Oxford, where Richard will be studying engineering and Amy will be studying law.
Bethany will be pursuing global politics at the University of Exeter with a year abroad, and Zoe will be studying global sustainable development at the University of Warwick.
Other students who made significant progress to secure a place on their dream courses include Natasha Weston-Kemp, who is going to study primary education at the University of the West of England.
Rocco Shaw will be studying journalism and communications at Cardiff University.
Hannah Wilson will be studying medicine at the University of Exeter, and Joe Gillespie who is going to Oxford Brookes University to study international relations and politics.
Both Tom Stolliday and Matilda Davis secured degree apprenticeships, who will be training in project management with engineering company Atkins.
A number of students are also moving into employment or training, such as Ellie Clark who is already working in a local accounting department.
Catherine Cheese, head of sixth form said: “We are very proud of these students who have shown great commitment and resilience they have shown to their studies throughout the past two years.
“They have shown great ambition to achieve their goals as well as forming a great community as a year group.
“It has been a privilege to work with these students and we wish them all the very best for their futures.”
Headteacher Joe Docherty said: “Well done to all our students at the sixth form for their results.
“We are proud of all individuals and their destinations, which differ between a range of university courses, employment and apprenticeships.
“Many students have made such personal progress throughout their time at sixth form, and a number of students have gained results beyond their expectations.
“My thanks go to all the staff who have supported and taught the students throughout their time at sixth form, and to parents and family members for supporting them.
“I wish the students success for the next stage in their lives.”
