A NEW hair salon in Berkeley will be allowed to sell alcohol to clients getting their hair done.

Joanne Kershaw, who runs newly-opened Perfected Hair and Beauty Studio Limited at unit 2, 17 Canonbury Street, Berkeley has been granted premises licence by Stroud District Council.

The new venture will be allowed to sell alcohol everyday from 9am to 10pm.

Ms Kershaw told the licensing sub-committee hearing at Ebley Mill on August 14 that she wants to offer clients a luxury service.

And the licence will allow her to offer clients a drink while they are getting their hair done.

She said hen parties of up to three people could also be arranged.

“If they wanted to attend for a hair or beauty treatment, while it is developing they could potentially opt to have a glass of Prosecco or a little glass of wine,” she said.

“[It’s to provide] that luxury service and to feel special while they are with us having that service at an additional cost.

“The majority of clients may just opt for your standard tea and coffee and they are quite happy with that.

“I wouldn’t have anyone drinking alcohol outside the premises and it’s up to me to keep it well established and a good name to the salon.”

A couple of objections were lodged against the licence application by neighbours who were concerned about potential hamper and hen parties.

They fear it could lead to noise clients leaving in the evening.

The licensing sub-committee decided to grant the premises licence after considering the arguments both for and against.
