A POP-punk band from Yate say they're "excited" and a “bit nervous" to be opening for Scouting for Girls next year.

Mosaic, who formed in 2017, will be performing at Good Times Yate on Friday, May 24 at Yate Town Football Club.

The festival drew more than 5,500 people in May last year with next year’s event expected to be even bigger.

Friday's concert next year includes Scouting for Girls whose hits include She's So Lovely and Elvis Ain't Dead.

They will be joined by rock band Toploader known for their hit Dancing in the Moonlight.

Mosaic, who are all from Yate, will open the night with Jared McLean, 34, on guitar and lead vocals, Chris Brain, 34, on bass, and Victor Minkov, 32, on drums.

They have known each other since meeting at Brimsham Green School.

The group's name Mosaic was inspired by the variety of music genres they have been inspired by which includes Busted and Blink182.

Drummer Victor said: “We're all originally from Yate and have sort of known each other since school.

“I’m still a little mind-blown and if I think about it too much; when I visualise the night I am excited and a little nervous.

“It’s a big gig and I’d like us to do well and if we do it might give us a foot in the door to the industry.

“Even if it turns out to be our career highlight, I look forward to singing along to Scouting for Girls.”

The trio have recently released a new single as well as a music video for their new song ‘R U OK?’ which is about mental health and checking in on your loved ones.

The group is also celebrating after performing at successful headline show at The Fleece in Bristol earlier this month.

Victor added: “The original idea behind the name Mosaic was that we were piecing together a variety of genres but the more we wrote the more our music seemed to be pop punk.. imagine a Busted and Blink182 love child.

“We would love to take this project full time and we thank everyone who has enjoyed what we do and supported us this far.

“For now we will continue to spend our spare time writing catchy songs and creating meaningful content alongside them.”

“Jared and I were inspired by each other’s musical interests and creative processes and had been playing and writing music together in the garage for several years.

“We wanted a bassist to take our music to the stage; enter Chris, who added an extra dimension to the creative process and influenced us to be more up-beat and commercial sounding."

Gates open at 5pm at the Festival Stage at Good Times Yate.
