A CHARITY football day was held at Yate Town to raise funds for a man who has been recently diagnosed with throat cancer.

A group of friends Jamie Clark, Daniel Hayes, Brent Suleman, Justin Pritchard and Darren Ryemill, decided to try and raise some money to support Jamie Martin and his young family whilst he is unable to work as being self-employed.

There were two semi-final games which were contested well, with Brimsham Green Vets and Chipping Sodbury Vets contesting the final of which Sodbury coming out 2-0 winners.

Yate Town Vets beat The Bell Vets in the 3rdGazette Series: The charity event held at Yate last weekend/4th place playoff.

Players were asked for donations, there was also a raffle and an auction with some great prizes donated by the Yate and local community.

Jamie Clark said: "We have all been friends since school and most of us have played football for Brimsham together.

"Jamie is a top lad, full of life, loves his football and is still hoping for a return once he has fully recovered.

"He is one of those guys that turns everything into a joke and always makes us all laugh.

"We all wish him the best for a full recovery and looking forward to holidaying with him next year.

"We would like to thank everyone for their generosity and to all the helpers during the day."
