A MUCH-loved Slimming World group based in Dursley has announced it has found a new home and has launched an extra session.

Dursley Slimming World group which is run by consultant Ruth Voller has found a new venue at Dursley Rugby Club.

Ruth, who has lost 4st as a member herself, said: “I opened my first Slimming World group in Dursley in January 2020.

“It’s one session in the evening and has supported members virtually in online weekly groups from March, when the national lockdown first closed our community groups.”

Following the lockdown Ruth eventually reopened a further two groups making it a total of five different sessions in Dursley.

“It was so hard to find venues immediately after the pandemic and the Oak at Kingshill Pub and Rednock School have been fantastic looking after us over the past two years.”

“It’s been my dream for some time to find a single location so that the members all have the same home venue with plenty of parking and the Dursley Rugby Club gives us just that!”

The new venue also heralds a new 8am session.

This runs on Friday mornings alongside the existing 9:30am session and the Wednesday sessions at 9am, 10:30am, 5:30pm and 7pm.

Ruth said: “I want to be able to help as many people as possible and adding the earlier group means that whatever time of day works best for you there’s a for you.”

“And if you can’t make it to a group in Dursley there are others in Charfield, Coalpit Heath, Alveston, Berkeley, Wotton Frampton Cotterell and Yate that would love to welcome you too!”

Dursley Rugby Club chairman, Phil Sprague, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ruth and her Slimming World Groups.

“We have really great facilities, suitable for events from parties to meetings and we are keen to build relationships and host organisations in the community.”

Member Annette Crawford said: “I know it can be nerve-wracking to walk into a Slimming World group for the first time.

"But I can assure anyone who’s worrying about their weight that there’s no judgement at Slimming World, just respect and care – and it’s absolutely safe.

“Every single person in the room has been there themselves, everyone understands exactly how it feels and everyone’s welcome at our group.

“As well as being able to share how we’re feeling, being able to share ideas about how to enjoy delicious food and feel fitter and healthier has made a real difference not just to my weight, I’ve gained much more self confidence too.

“If anyone’s worrying about going hungry – before I joined I definitely thought losing weight meant I’d be starving – don’t.

“Slimming World’s plan is about eating everyday foods and all your favourite meals, you just find out how to make small changes to how you cook them that make a big difference to your weight.”

The Dursley Slimming World groups at Dursley Rugby Club are open now.
