A VILLAGE near Dursley celebrated the return of its annual show over the weekend and was coincidently joined by competitors from Tour of Britain who zoomed past.

Uley Annual Show returned on Saturday, September 9 at the village hall with cyclists passing up through Crawley Hill.

Meanwhile, there were dozens of exhibits in the village show.

A total of 293 exhibits were entered by 57 exhibitors, including the children's section, which had 23 entries from 12 children aged three to sixteen.

All winners in the childrens’ section received a red winners rosette and all children received a coloured pencil.

The Ruth Cornish Cup was awarded for the second year running to Rowan Allen, aged 11, who entered 13 categories.

Merryn Rymer, aged 9, won arrangement in a basket also in the adults section.

Lydia Tutton, aged 13, won the victoria sponge cake for the third year running in the adult's section and won the Cookery Cup.

Jackie Waldock won four cups including the Catherine Freeth for the most entries overall.

The day also included afternoon tea plus a cup presentation and raffle.

An organiser said: "It was a great show. Despite the dry weather, there were some beautiful flowers, splendid cookery with plenty of limericks and fine handicraft.

"The standard as ever was very high - there is an amazing amount of talent in the village.

"The judges were very impressed by the standard of entries."
