MORE THAN 360 abandoned vehicles were reported in the Stroud district during the last financial year, according to the latest figures.

A recent report by Stroud District Council shows a 1.86 per cent decrease in the number of reports compared to 2021/22.

A total of 368 vehicles were reported in 2022/23, six were inspected and three removed.

There were 376 reports in 2021/22 and four vehicles were inspected while two were removed.

Stroud District Council has a duty to investigate and removed abandoned vehicles due to the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act, and the clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

The authority works with Gloucestershire County Council and Stroud has a responsibility to remove vehicles where they are deemed to be abandoned while the County Council has a duty to store and dispose of them.

The district council checks all the reports it receives to make sure that the vehicle is abandoned.

Many of the vehicles reported do not qualify as being abandoned and are vehicles which are inconsiderately parked.

These are not followed up by an investigation.

Vehicles that qualify as being abandoned when checked are often removed from the location prior to an investigation starting.

The areas with most reports of abandoned vehicles last year were Stroud with 60 cases, Stonehouse with 39 reports while the council received 21 reports each from Minchinhampton, Wotton-under-Edge and Dursley.

Two vehicles were removed from Brookthorpe-With-Whaddon and one from Haresfield.
