THE OWNERS of a historic venue near Dursley have applied to extend its premise licence and serve alcohol in new areas.

A varied licence application has been sent to Stroud District Council for Owlpen Manor in Uley.

The picturesque Tudor venue - which is Grade I listed - is a popular wedding venue and also hosts events and private parties.

Owners have applied to extend its existing licence area to include additional outside areas including its lawn next to its swimming lake.

It is proposed that the new outside areas would have the same permission as existing outside areas on the current premises licence, which includes the sale of alcohol from 10am to 11pm.

If approved, it is hoped that more theatrical performances would take place at the manor.

The applicant states that any events would end no later than 8pm. They also said if they were later they would first consult with their neighbours before booking any event.

If permission is granted, it will be effective immediately.

A statement from the applicant reads: “This extension will not change the nature of the business as it stands.

“Instead it will ensure the provision of better service for guests, and enhanced opportunities to interpret and enjoy the main heritage asset of the business, being the manor house.

“We also propose that, by obtaining this extension, we shall be able to stage more theatrical performances which will be drawn in, and benefit from, the stunning backdrop of the famous manor house.

“Events at this outside space shall be scheduled in such a way that they limit any noise or disturbance to neighbours at all times.

“We have amended our noise management plan to tighten our restrictions.

“It is also publicly available on our website.

“When amplified music is required, we shall notify our neighbours as outlined below.”

Representations can be made to the Licensing Section until Tuesday, October 3.
