AN INSPIRING mum, son and their friends have braved a head shave in honour of people in their lives who are currently undergoing cancer treatment.

Colleen Crowther and her son Tyrhys took part in the challenge over the weekend with their friends Nikki Lewis and Zach Pugh who are all from the Dursley area.

Colleen, who works as a self-employed cleaner, said she wanted to show her support to her five clients who have been diagnosed with the disease.

The shave was carried out by local hairdressers from MillieNhair Innovations at an event at The Railway Inn in Cam on Saturday, September 30.

The afternoon also included a raffle, face painting, cake sale, tombola and food.

In total, the team have raised £2,590 for cancer support charity Maggie’s which has a centre in Cheltenham.

Colleen said: “Saturday went brilliantly, it was very busy and manic and a brilliant turn out on the day.

“We made £2590.75 for Maggie's in total which is just incredible.

“A big thank you to everyone involved making this happen with donations for tombola, raffle prizes and cakes too.”

Before the shave, Colleen previously said: “When you've had hair for so long it's so nerve racking wondering what it's going to be like without hair.

“But each one of us knows it's for an amazing charity and our hair will definitely grow back at some point.

"It's such a sad disease. Everyone somewhere has got a loved one battling cancer or has lost someone close to them.

“We are so nervous about doing this, I even contemplated doing a skydive again instead of the headshave.”
