TWO inspiring friends have returned home after walking hundreds of miles in memory of a much-loved local boy who died of leukaemia aged 11.

James Dunsby from Alveston and Chris French have recently walked the entire 630-mile South West Coast Path from Minehead to Poole in just three weeks.

The incredible challenge was completed in honour of Thomas Worboys, also known as Toti, from Dodington near Old Sodbury.

Toti tragically died in July 2014, just one day after being diagnosed with childhood leukaemia.

James became friends with the Worboys family when their children joined the same athletics club. He was moved by Toti’s sudden death and wanted to help.

James said: “The thought of losing a child is unbearable for any parent.

“I had just given up my job and was up for a challenge to raise money for the fund in honour of Toti’s legacy, especially setting off in Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.”

Toti’s parents, Nick and Amelia, previously launched the Toti Worboys Fund to support research by the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group.

When Toti's fund was first set up, his family wanted to raise £100,000 for the cancer charity.

With James’s help, they have now reached over £350,000.

Tori's dad Nick also took time off work to walk several sections of the trail with James.

He joined James for the final leg to the finish line in Poole Harbour where they were greeted by family, friends and supporters.

Nick said: “My family remains positive and motivated to keep Toti’s memory alive.

“He would have been 20 this year so it's a huge comfort to know that he can still make a difference to others and we are so thankful for such incredible support.

“James’s inspiring achievement has made a huge contribution to our fundraising efforts.

“We can’t thank him enough.”

The South West Coast Path is the UK’s longest national trail and the equivalent ascent of climbing Everest four times.
