A TEENAGER from Charfield suffered a fractured skull and lost several teeth after a collision with a car.

The 14-year-old Katharine Lady Berkeley's School pupil was returning home from school and had just stepped off a school bus in the centre of the village moments before.

The collision with a BMW car occurred in Little Bristol Lane at 3pm last Friday, July 4.

He suffered a fractured skull, a broken bone in the base of his neck and lost several teeth in the incident.

His injuries were at first thought to be life threatening and he was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol by the Great Western Air Ambulance who attended the scene.

The car driver stopped after the incident and had not suffered any injuries.

Sgt Craig Ogborne, of Thornbury police Station, said: "On arrival officers found a 14-year-old local boy had been in collision with a car and had suffered serious injuries.

"The boy was treated at the scene by air ambulance and paramedics and taken to Frenchay Hospital by the air ambulance where he received further treatment.

"Although at first it was thought he had life threatening injuries it is now hoped he will make a good recovery in hospital."
