GYMNASTS from a club in Yate have been crowned European champions. 

Gymnasts from King Edmund Acro Gym in Yate have been crowned European Acrobatic Championships in the Women’s Junior Pair All-Around competition after being selected to represent Britain at the 2023 European Acrobatic Championships in Varna, Bulgaria.

The competition took place from October 18 to 22 October and saw Acrobatic gymnasts from across Europe take to the competition floor to battle it out to be crowned a European Champion.

Making up the winning pair was Esme Mathias (17) and Natalia Gilbert (16) who also took the bronze medal in the Women’s Junior Pair Combined competition.

"We feel honoured and as though all the hard work that has been put in over the years has paid off. It’s nice to show our skills as a partnership and receive recognition from people who enjoy the sport as much as us.

“It’s been a very exciting but nerve-wracking experience because we are competing against some of the best partnerships in Europe but to hear the support of the crowd and to get on the podium is just incredible.”
