A BAND from Yate are celebrating after recently completing a unique and epic charity cycling challenge.

In just 14 days, two members of the cover band Tundra rode 1,000 miles across the country and even gave live performances along the way.

Singer Mark Evans and keyboardist Ian McGuire cycled from Land's End to John o' Groats covering up to 90 miles a day.

Joined by guitarist Guy Gibbs in a support vehicle, the trio have so far raised more than £9,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association.

During the challenge, the group performed a 90-minute gig at 14 different venues across the UK at the end of each day.

Some of their performances included Exeter, Clevedon, Worcester, Preston, Edinburgh and Sutherland.

They officially finished the challenge on Sunday, October 22.

The fundraiser was organised in memory of Mark's brother-in-law Paul Bradley who tragically died aged 54 in March this year from the disease.

The band, which was founded 17 years ago, is much-loved in the Yate area and has performed at many events across the South West region.

They have even opened for West Country legends The Wurzels.

Mark said: “There is currently no cure for Motor Neurone Disease and I wanted to do something unique to raise money in Paul's memory.

"As musicians and cyclists it seemed fitting that me and Ian go one step further than the usual LeJog ride, combining those talents to draw attention to our fundraiser.

“It's been quite a challenge to perform after a tiring days cycling but we've had tremendous support from our sponsors, friends and family at home and from the many people that have donated at each of the gigs.”

After enjoying 24 degree sunshine in Cornwall at the start of the challenge, the pair were lucky to escape the worst of Storm Babet in the Scottish Highland stages.

Although at times they were cycling through floods and dealing with temperatures below freezing on the higher ground.

Ian said: “It's been a tough couple of weeks but we've really seen the best in people on this challenge and we’re very pleased with what we've achieved for MNDa.”
