A YOUNG mother who was killed in a car accident along with her two children has been described as "a free spirit" by her family.

Family and friends gathered today at St Mary's Church in Berkeley to say goodbye to Rebecca Kingsland, 26, and Alanah, two, and Logan, eight months, who were all killed a fortnight ago in a car crash near Sharpness.

More than 150 mourners were at the funeral service this afternoon which celebrated the three lives.

A coffin, carrying both mum and the two children, was taken into the parish church to American band Greenday's song Time of your Life.

Rev Richard Avery, who led the mourners in celebrating Becky and the children's lives, said: "It is with heavy hearts that we come here today to pay our respects to Becky and to Alanah and to Logan."

Speaking on behalf of Becky's parents, Brian and Pamela Kingsland, Mr Avery paid tribute to Becky.

He said: "Becky was a beautiful and striking woman with a mane of dark curly hair. She was independent and fiercely proud, a free spirit. There was nothing conventional about her but she did what she did wholeheartedly.

"She loved animals, art and music but mostly children. She always knew she was going to have a large family and she relished the challenge."

Alanah, who was visually impaired, was described as a "joyful little girl" in the service. Tributes were also made to eight-month-old Logan.

Becky leaves two other children, Dylan, eight, and Steven, five.

In lieu of flowers the Kingsland family asked that donations be made to Winston's Wish and the National Blind Children's Association.

A second service will be held in Becky's hometown of Plymouth on Tuesday, July 15.
