A BRILLIANT Christmas display in a village near Yate is due to be ‘bigger and better’ than before, say organisers.
Ricky and Chrissie Fenning are in the process of transforming their Winterbourne home into a winter wonderland, complete with thousands of multicoloured lights and other festive delights.
Last year's display used 20,000 lights, but this year's display will go to a 'whole new level' with 50,000 lights.
In addition to their North Pole section and Nativity scene, a new display will feature a colourful magical wishing well, a 3ft water fountain, and an enchanting forest-themed area.
This year the pair are hoping to raise £2,500 for the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity.
Ricky said: “It all started with two sets of lights around five years ago.
“I wasn’t keen on the idea of having to hang lights off the gutter back then, but even with very few lights, a few people commented how pretty they looked.
“We then added a few more sets of lights each year, and more and more passers by would say it looks so pretty.
“A few people then suggested that we should start collecting for charity, so in 2021 we decided to give it a go raising for charity, we raised just under £700.
“Seeing so many people enjoy what was really a very small display then has just led us to where we are now, with over 50,000 lights, up from 20,000 lights last year.
“It’s just so amazing seeing so many people enjoying our display.
“Seeing people's faces as they walk in makes it all worth it.
“The fact that it also helps our local children’s hospital makes it even more rewarding.
“Our own children have required a few visits and surgeries over the years, and our close friends, so it just seemed the natural choice.”
Two switch-on events are taking place at their home in Down Road on November 25 and 26, starting at 6pm, with the switch-on at 6.30pm.
