NATIONAL HIGHWAYS is advising drivers travelling around the Almondsbury Interchange near Bristol to allow extra time for their journeys ahead of emergency repairs taking place at M5 junction 15 this evening.

The feeder road from junction 16 to the M5 northbound has been closed to traffic during the day following an incident in which a HGV ruptured a fuel tank and spilt 150 litres of diesel across the carriageway

The carriageway of the feeder road requires emergency resurfacing and to minimise disruption, this will take place under a northbound closure once evening peak traffic has subsided.

During the feeder road closure, traffic wishing to join the M5 northbound is being diverted via M4 Junction 22.

Emergency resurfacing will take place from 6.30pm and while the work takes place, the M5 will be closed from junction 17 (Cribbs Causeway).

National Highways is advising drivers to plan ahead, allow extra time and to use the M49 at junction 18A for westbound M4 journeys and to rejoin the M5 northbound from M4 Junction 22.

From the junction 17 closure, traffic will be diverted via the A38.
