THORNBURY officially got into the Christmas spirit earlier this week.

The much-loved light switch on event took place on Tuesday, November 21.

There was a community market, a small funfair, plus live performances including from Panache Steel Band.

It was the event's first appearance in four years, having not taken place in the town since 2019.

A total of £375 was raised for Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that supports children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.

The lights were turned on by Thornbury mayor James Murray, Ollie and his family, a local boy who has been supported by the charity.

A spokesperson from Thornbury Christmas Lights Association said: “We were very pleased with our first official event in four years and our first joint venture with Love Thornbury, who without the event would not have been possible.

“We were very grateful to the wonderful crowds and for their support of our switch-on superstar, Ollie, his parents and of course, Charlie the teddy!”

“We would like to thank all those who donated to the charity and all those volunteers who made such a memorable evening possible.”
