A BRILLIANT and one-of-a-kind Christmas display has been set up by a family near Thornbury.

The colourful display - which was created by Jenni Wood and her family in Milbury Heath - celebrates Doctor Who marking the television show’s 60th birthday.

The outside of their home has been completely transformed and features everything from a festive Dalek, full-size Tardis and even two Cybermen inside a Morris Minor from the 1960s.

Everything which features in the display has been made by Jenni and her husband Antony, their three children Joe, Jake and Rosie and took several weekends to set up.

The team started work on the display in September.

The largest prop, the Tardis, was made by using interior doors found on Facebook marketplace, while other pieces of wood were donated by Morton Timber.

Meanwhile, the Dalek was made out of random items including two compost bins for the main body, a laundry basket, a lampshade, paint roller, glowing baubles and even a couple of plungers.

Other items in the display include two Cybermen, which were created using toy masks and chicken wire wrapped in kitchen foil for their bodies.

The display is also special as Jenni’s beloved car named Alice also features in the display.

The family are raising money for Marie Curie as the charity is celebrating its 75th year anniversary.

They chose the hospice charity because Jenni is a member of the Morris Minor Owners Club, which has been raising funds for Marie Curie for over 20 years.

Jenni said: “I can’t think of a more fitting way to see out 2023 with an amazing iconic British display celebrating the success of Dr Who 60 years along with Marie Curie and the Morris Minor both celebrating 75 years.

“The just giving page has a target of £500 but we’re close to smashing this, including the bucket donations taken so far.

“During my travels this year with the club’s charity car I visited a few of the Marie Curie hospices and met staff and volunteers, caring for people with terminal illness, learning about the amazing work they do, not just in the hospices but also in the community.”

You can see the display on Cuttsheath Road, Milbury Heath, Thornbury, GL12 8QL.

Lights are switched on from 4pm to 10pm everyday until January 5.
