A MAN from Yate has been sentenced after attempting to engage in sexual communication with children online. 

Paul Baumann, aged 53, of Birkdale, Yate, pleaded not guilty to two separate counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with two children under the age of 16.

He was found guilty at a hearing at Bristol Magistrates Court on January 19. 

The court register states he attempted to speak to one child between August 11, 2021 and March 1, 2022 and another child between May 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021 via Meet24 and meet 4U websites.

Baumann was ordered to take part in up to 35 days of rehabilitation activity and register with Bridewell Police Station in Bristol for five years. 

He was fined £50 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £95 plus £85 in costs - a total of £230.
