AN appeal has been launched by an animal shelter near Dursley to help give a poorly cat another chance in life.

Pablo arrived at Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home when he was just a few weeks old, after he was found abandoned with three other kittens.

They arrived at the shelter in Cambridge with dirty coats and were described by staff as vulnerable and tiny.

Pablo, like the other kittens in his litter, was eventually rehomed, but four years later he has since returned to the shelter in Cambridge.

The charity says Pablo - now aged four - was returned through “no fault” of his adopter but has been diagnosed with gingivitis - inflammation of the gums.

According to the CDCH team, he had been showing signs of discomfort and was seen grinding his teeth and also showed reservations about moving around.

Pablo has since been placed on pain relief following a health check at the Vale Vets.

However, he needs dental X-rays to decide whether any teeth need to be extracted and needs radiographs of his pelvis and spine.

Pablo has been booked for his X-rays and a fundraising appeal has now been launched.

The charity says they often “feel the strain” of expensive veterinary bills but say they are determined to help give Pablo help.

Emily Bacon, animal care assistant said: "Pablo came into the centre reserved and scared.

“He very quickly grew to recognise who his main carers were and since then has become very bonded with his favourite people in the cattery.

“He loves to nuzzle into your face and paw at you for attention.

“He gets very jealous when you are cleaning his pod and not giving him enough attention!

“He has also started to show his playful side and has just started to become brave enough to explore the corridor thanks to the great relationship he also has with Lindsay from the animal care team.”
