CLARITY over a key road closure in Cam has finally come after much confusion.

According to an online roadworks notice, Box Road was due to close for 12 weeks for “utility repair and maintenance works”.

The closure was reportedly due to start yesterday, Monday, February 5 with works being carried out by internet service provider Gigaclear until April 30.

But a Gigaclear spokesperson has now revealed that their closure is due to take place next month for four days from Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22.

It comes after there was recently confusion whether the road was closing last week on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 30 and 31.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Gloucestershire County Council has also announced that their Highways work that was due to take place this month has been cancelled.

They say their road signs at the Box Road junction are due to be removed.

A GCC spokesperson said: "I’ve been told the February closure has been cancelled, so the road will remain open.

"The road signs will be removed in due course."

"We’d like to thank Cam residents for their patience"

A spokesperson from Gigaclear said: “We would like to reassure residents in Cam that there are no plans to close Box Road from this week until the end of April.

“We agreed with Gloucestershire County Council that we would apply for a road closure ‘window’ and that we would then submit traffic management plans and drawings, at a later date, for a much shorter road closure that we anticipate will last no more than four days.

“The reason for requesting the ‘window’ is simply to give us the flexibility when making arrangements for the work to be carried out.

“The closure is required on safety grounds to enable pedestrian access as we carry out work along the footpath.

“Where possible, we always look to use existing infrastructure - such as ducts and poles - when extending our full fibre broadband network.

“Unfortunately, on this occasion it has not been possible.

“We’d like to thank all residents in Cam for their patience whilst our engineering work takes place.

“We’re confident the long-term benefits that come with having access to fast and reliable full fibre broadband will outweigh the short term inconvenience.”

Meanwhile, bus operator Stagecoach West has also revealed how the 65 service will be affected when the closure is eventually enforced.

A statement from Stagecoach West reads: “We have been told that Box Road will be closed to allow for maintenance works. During this time service 65 will divert as follows:

“The service will stay on the Draycot Road A4135, then it will use the bus stop just past Box Road for customers who want to alight at the train station.

“We will be unable to serve Cam & Dursley rail station.

“Passengers will need to walk to and from the station, there is a bus stop at the top of the road called Draycott Business Park, this is where the bus will be waiting for both directions.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, albeit out of our control.”
