DURSLEY Running Club is celebrating after receiving a grant and meeting an Olympic hero.

The club has received an award of £1,000 from the National Running Show in Birmingham which will be used to continue its Walk2Run programme and the Mindful Mile.

The show was recently held where David Durden, committee chair and Damian Lai, chair of the senior running section committee collected the award on behalf of the club.

They also met their Olympic hero Steve Cram who was one of the world's dominant middle distance runners during the 1980s.

“Everyone is welcome to join us"

The Walk2Run programme is a 12-week course run by volunteers to introduce people to the benefits of running within a club environment.

According to the club, over the last ten years of running the programme, they have seen more than 250 beginners complete it.

The scheme takes place every January and recently they launched an Autumn programme.

Meanwhile, the Mindful Mile is a free event held every Saturday morning which was originally launched after the pandemic.

It allows people and their families to enjoy a gentle run or walk around the grounds of Dursley Running Club, supported by volunteers.
