COMMUNITY champions are being sought for a new award which recognises outstanding public spirit in Cam.

The Clifton Community Award has recently been launched by Cam Parish Council in honour of Councillor Miranda Clifton’s thirty years of dedicated service.

The council says they are looking for nominations for inspiring individuals or groups to be considered for the honour.

The award was established in recognition of Ms Clifton's dedication to the parish and her numerous volunteer roles.

She has been on the governing board of both Cam Everlands and Cam Woodfield Infants Schools for more than twenty years.

The council says she has also been “instrumental” in helping to establish youth club provision in Cam and Dursley.

In addition, she is on the management committee and secretary of Cam Woodfield Youth and Community Centre.

During the pandemic, Ms Clifton helped with the GL11 Community Hub Covid response by packing and delivering food bags and marshalling at vaccination centres.

She still volunteers by helping with washing up in the kitchen on community lunch days.

In addition, Ms Clifton is a member of the Cam, Dursley and Uley Greenway group aiming to establish a dedicated walking and cycling route from Uley to the railway station.

On Wednesday afternoons she also gardens as a member of the Blooming Cam volunteer group.

A council spokesperson said: “Miranda is a true example of a local champion and the Clifton Community Award seeks to appreciate and reward those who are doing great things, often behind the scenes.

“It could be any one person or group making a difference to lives throughout Cam: by helping people, setting up community projects, promoting healthy lifestyles, contributing to sustainable living or conserving wildlife, and so much more.

“Anyone nominated for the award must either live or work in or benefit the residents of Cam and have a positive impact on people living within the Cam Parish Council area.

“Nominated community groups must not make a profit and must operate within the parish.”

Nominations must be received by March 20, with the winner announced during Cam Parish Council’s Annual Parish Assembly on May 30.
