A WOMAN from the area who reached her 100th birthday has revealed her advice for living a long and happy life.

Mavis Scott, who lives at Trymview Hall care home near Filton marked her 100th birthday on Tuesday, March 12.

To mark the big day, Mavis’s family joined her at the home for a special celebration, and care staff decorated the home with balloons and banners.

The home’s head chef also baked a birthday cake for everyone to enjoy.

At Mavis’ request, a special appearance was also made by none other than Father Christmas.

She said: “I had such a wonderful Christmas here at the home that I was delighted Father Christmas could come for my birthday.

“I knew it was really Matt, the maintenance man, but it was fantastic fun.

“It was lovely to be spoiled for the day and have my family visit – the team made such a fuss of me and I received my card from the King!”

Mavis has also shared that her fulfilled life has been meeting the love of her life without having to “kiss many frogs to find your prince”.

Mavis was born in Liverpool in 1924.

Mavis first met her late husband, Bill, through her brother, as the two were close friends. Together, Mavis and Bill had two children, Andrew and Peter.

Bill worked in the civil service, so Mavis and her family moved around the country following Bill.

Keen fans of walking, Mavis and Bill climbed many mountains together across England, Scotland and Wales – their favourite place was the Lake District, with Striding Edge holding special memories of enjoying a homemade picnic with the beautiful view.

Now, Mavis enjoys walking, taking part in the many quizzes and activities at the home, and listening to live music.

Nicole Anderson, home manager at Trymview Hall, said: “Mavis is a much-loved resident here at Trymview Hall and we all had a wonderful time celebrating her special day.

“We work hard to support residents to lead fulfilling lives, and marking special occasions and birthdays plays a huge part in this.

“We love any excuse to celebrate the amazing people living here at Trymview Hall and Mavis’ birthday was no exception.

“Everyone had a wonderful time toasting Mavis’ birthday and listening to her share memories from her long, happy life – and having a visit from Santa really was the icing on the cake.

“We’re all incredibly privileged to have Mavis as part of the Trymview Hall family – happy birthday!”
