Luke Hall MP lands new minister role at Department for Education

The Thornbury and Yate MP has been named as the new Minister of State at the 
Department for Education. 

It follows the resignation of two ministers, forcing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to reshuffle his cabinet.

On the same day, Robert Halfon announced he was resigning as an education minister, while James Heappey followed through on a previous promise to step down as armed forces minister.

It is understood Mr Hall has become the new Minister of State for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education. 

As part of his role, Mr Hall will have over skills and higher and further education, including universities and the Student Loans Company.

In a statement on social media, Mr Hall said it was an “honour” and a “privilege” to be taking on the role. 

“An honour to be asked by Rishi Sunak to become a Minister at the Department for Education,” he said. 

“A privilege to follow on from Robert Halfon MP and I'm looking forward to working with 
Gillian Keegan MP to build on his brilliant legacy.”

In reply, Ms Keegan said: “Delighted to welcome Luke Hall MP as the new Minister of State at the Department for Education. 

“I'm looking forward to working with him as we build on Robert Halfon MP’s brilliant record of expanding skills opportunities to people from all backgrounds.”

Mr Hall was previously Minister for Regional Growth and Local Government at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government from 8 September 2020 to 15 September 2021.

He served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government from 27 July 2019 to 8 September 2020.
