A CHURCH in Chipping Sodbury is offering people the challenge of abseiling down its 100-foot tower.

The event is taking place at St John the Baptist Church with all money raised going towards maintenance work on the historic building.

Organisers say the tower is around 100 feet high and anyone above the age of 14 are invited to take part.

The event - which is due to take place on Saturday, June 8 - will be supervised by Dave Talbot Adventure Events who have been running similar events for around 16 years.

An organiser said: “St John the Baptist Church needs to raise funds for its upkeep including at least £30,000 already identified by the architect for urgent repairs on the church building itself.

“To start the ball rolling on Saturday June 8, the church is holding a sponsored abseil event from the top of the tower down some 100 feet to the bottom.

“Not only will the participants experience the thrill of abseiling but before they jump, they will get an amazing view of the surrounding countryside from the top of the tower.”

Organisers say early registration is encouraged as the numbers are limited.
