A HISTORIC landmark in Thornbury has retained its prestigious AA award. 

Thornbury Castle has achieved its three AA Rosettes for culinary excellence and four Red Stars for the second year running. 

The AA Rosette award is a nationwide scheme for assessing the quality of food served by restaurants and hotels. 

Gordon Riddell, general manager of Thornbury Castle said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have retained our three 3 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence and four Red Stars at Thornbury Castle for the second year running. 

“Being credited with these prestigious awards are testament to our brilliant team who work incredibly hard in producing a first-class customer experience. 

“To achieve these coveted accolades is a great privilege.”

The 16th century castle hotel is the only Tudor Castle in England to be open as a hotel. 

King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn slept in one of the 26 bedchambers and walked through the ancient gardens.
