SEVERAL roads in South Gloucestershire have been announced to be included in a series of works taking place this summer.

South Gloucestershire Council says it is planning to start carrying out its summer programme of surface dressing on Monday, June 3.

Work will be carried out on several roads, including the A4175 Bath Road at Bridgeyate, Scott Way in Yate and the A38 Gloucester Road in Rudgeway.

A council spokesperson said: “There are likely to be some road closures with temporary diversions for traffic, stop and go controls or temporary traffic lights.

“Surface dressing is a preventive surface treatment designed to reseal the carriageway surface and prevent future potholes from forming.

“A bitumen emulsion spray is applied, then one or two layers of aggregate are laid on top.

“It is a relatively quick process and traffic is allowed back on the road, at reduced speeds, shortly after it has been laid.

“In the following weeks, the roads are then swept to pick up any aggregate that has not been bedded in, road markings are re-applied and temporary speed restrictions lifted.

“It is a weather dependent process and therefore, dates are subject to change.”
