THE whole of Yate rocked out last night as McFly, one of the UK’s most successful bands, headlined at the 'biggest music event' the town has ever seen.

3000 fans were at Yate Town Football Club for the ‘spectacular’ event that kicked off at 5.45pm with local singer Liam Palmer opening the show.

Bands Ultra Violet and Holler warmed up the crowds before Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter hit the stage for McFly.

Celebrating their 21st year, McFly belted their way through a number of their huge hits whilst the crowd of all ages ignored the rain to soak in the monumental moment for ‘little old Yate.’

Event organiser James Murden, who was introduced to the stage by his eight-year-old son George, said he was thrilled to bring the 'biggest music event' with 'some of the biggest names' in the industry to the town.

He said: “What a night we had.

"After months of organising and weeks of final preparations, a yellow weather warning and a few last minute technical difficulties, I have to say, the first night was utterly spectacular.

“The moment was made extra special for me, it was my daughter's birthday and my brave son stepped out to welcome me to the stage as well.

“We are now looking forward to night two, and we have Jools Holland here to entertain everyone, fingers crossed we don’t see any more bad weather- though it all just seemed to add to the atmosphere!”

Jools Holland, Toploader and Scouting For Girls, Sophie Ellis Bexter, the Ibiza Symphony, Andy and the Odd Socks and a Comedy Gala are scheduled in for the rest of the week.

Tickets are still available for  some shows.
