TREES which stretched across the far side of the pitch at Yate Town's stadium have been removed.

The trees - which the club chair says have grown beyond their life expectancy - have started coming down in recent days.

The chair added that the removal of these trees - which would have been necessary anyway as part of a nearby housing development scheme - is just the first acts in trying to make the stadium a better experience for fans.

Club chair Mark Thorne said: “The iconic trees, around 100 of them, stretching right across the far side of our pitch and behind the terraced goal have been coming down this week.

“The trees had gone beyond their life expectancy and needed to be felled anyway as part of the Bromford housing development scheme neighbouring our ground .

“Spectators will still be able to stand in those areas as a temporary boundary fence will be in place until three-metre high wooden fencing is installed, hopefully over the summer.

“We’re also optimistic new LED floodlights will be in situ for the start of the new season which will be a real boost as the current 40-year-old lights are past their sell-by date.

“These are just the first acts in making our stadium a better experience for spectators and visitors in general.

“All options relating to further facility upgrades are on the table, proposed changes which will come to light more as we discuss and decide.

“Suffice to say the ground is already starting to look different and significant improvements are on the way."
