A FIRE next to a railway track caused major disruption for train passengers in the area today.
The blaze in Pilning, reported in the early hours this morning, Tuesday, July 8, led to the closure of all train lines between Bristol Parkway and Severn Tunnel Junction.
Several train services running between Bristol Temple Meads, Bristol Parkway, and Severn Tunnel Junction were cancelled or delayed.
The incident was eventually cleared at 10.46am.
A spokesperson from National Rail said: “Trains are now able to run as normal following disruption caused by a fire next to the track in the Pilning area which happened overnight.”
A spokesperson from Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Avonmouth, Southmead, Yate and Kingswood were called at 1.10am on Tuesday, July 8, were called to reports of a fire on Cross Hands Road, Pilning.
"On arrival, firefighters found a fire involving an electrical cabinet and used multiple CO2 extinguishers and one high pressure hose reel to extinguish the flames.
"Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus for safety.
"There were fortunately no casualties, and the scene has been safely handed over to Network Rail."
