POLICE have stepped up patrols in the Chipping Sodbury area after a suspected hare coursing incident.
A member of the public reported an incident in Kingrove Common on Friday, August 1.
The illegal activity involves dogs being trained to chase, catch, and kill live hares.
It is also illegal to participate, attend, knowingly facilitate or permit land to be used for hare coursing.
Under 2022 legislation, those caught hare coursing can face an unlimited fine and up to six months in prison.
A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Neighbourhood Policing said: "We'd like to thank the member of public for being vigilant and for reporting this, along with the vehicle registration numbers for the cars believed to be involved.
"The Neighbourhood Team will now be conducting frequent patrols of this location."
People who witness hare coursing in progress should call 999 immediately.
Those with information on participants are urged to call 101.
