A MAN has been jailed after he led police on a lengthy pursuit that included South Gloucestershire.
Jason Maddocks, aged 36, of Portmead Place, Blaenymaes, Swansea, pleaded guilty to failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed drug limit, criminal damage and possession of Class A drugs following the pursuit, which took place on October 1, 2024.
Officers initially attempted to stop the vehicle Maddocks was driving in the Corsham area following information suggesting a vulnerable missing person from the South Wales area was inside the vehicle.
The vehicle was located by an officer from Wiltshire Police travelling through the Chippenham area.
However, it failed to stop.
A lengthy pursuit ensued around Yatton Keynell, Castle Combe and Acton Turville areas.
The vehicle then headed back on the M4 towards Chippenham.
It eventually came to a stop at Hullavington Airfield, having caused extensive damage to multiple vehicles.
Maddocks was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences, and cocaine was located inside the vehicle.
The missing person was also located and taken to a place of safety.
Maddocks appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday, November 14.
He was sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment and given a driving disqualification for three years and seven months.
PC Nick Slade said: “This was a lengthy pursuit around several villages north of Chippenham.
“These are rural roads through villages where there could have been children crossing, cyclists and horse riders using the roads, yet Maddocks showed absolutely no regard for anyone else’s safety and was determined to flee from police.
“In doing so, he drove at excess speed, at times towards oncoming traffic, and even doing 100mph along the hard shoulder.
"This is totally unacceptable, and combined with such a disregard for others, he truly deserved to feel the full force of the law.
“I am glad he has been given a custodial sentence as well as a lengthy driving disqualification so he no longer poses a danger to road-users.”
