A roofer who has been charged with fraud after allegedly scamming customers has been sent to Swindon Crown Court.
28-year-old Arthur Dolan, of Trowbridge Road in Seend, appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrate's Court on Friday, February 27.
He faces two fraud charges as well as five charges of 'knowingly/recklessly engaging in a commercial practice', all relating to his roofing business, with one charge relating to a house in Gloucester Road, Thornbury.
The court heard how throughout 2024, Dolan took on roofing work in Henleaze, Bristol, and allegedly told his customer it was necessary to recover the roof on a property extension and add a dry verge system.
The prosecution claims that Dolan knew this wasn't true and was "intending to make a gain" for himself.
On July 28, 2024, he allegedly told customers their guttering system was too shallow and needed to be replaced, despite knowing this wasn't true.
Less than a month later, Dolan is also accused of having provided an invoice for the removal of waste at the same house in Henleaze, which "caused the average consumer to take a transactional decision he would not have otherwise taken."
Other charges of 'reckless practice' relate to a house on Gloucester Road in Thornbury.
Magistrates at Swindon Magistrates' Court decided the case was too serious to be dealt with by them and have now sent the Seend roofer's case to Swindon Crown Court.
He will next appear in court on March 27, 2026, at 10am.
Indicated guilty pleas have been entered for all of the seven charges, however Dolan will have to formally submit these pleas in the Crown Court on March 27.
