A NEW pop-up art exhibition is opening in Dursley this week.
Featuring work by adults, children and young people who attend classes at the Quarry Chapel in Cam, the collection will go on display at The Engine on Silver Street in Dursley, the former Oxfam shop, from Friday, April 24.
A launch event will run from 4.30pm to 7pm on opening day, and the exhibition will remain open to the public until May 15.
Visitors will be able to explore a diverse selection of artwork across disciplines including textiles, printmaking, photography, drawing, painting, ceramics, crochet and crafts.
Abi Nicol, development worker at The Quarry Chapel, said: "Our emphasis is on valuing individuals for who they are.
"We offer heavily subsidised courses, using quality materials.
"We encourage everyone to explore, experiment and develop their creativity.
"Our classes aim to widen skills, interest and confidence.
"Our community faces many obstacles, namely isolation but we are seeing a particular crisis in poor mental health, anxiety and a lack of confidence.
"We want to provide positive classes that combat this.
"As well as adult classes we have unique sessions for children and young people.
"Whether they love art and want to find a group to make friends and have creative fun, or who are currently unable to attend school, are neurodiverse or need a small group to gain confidence, we offer classes throughout the week."
A Quarry Chapel participant said: "I love that the Quarry Chapel is so versatile in the very different ways it is used and how through all the different activities held there helps to bring the community together. It has a very special feel to it."
During the exhibition, visitors will have the chance to take part in pop-up workshops, which will be held in the former shop space and will offer hands-on opportunities to explore different creative activities.
