THE White Lion was named winner of Thornbury’s Pride pub decorating competition, judged by the town’s mayor, ahead of the celebrations, on Friday, June 5.

Mayor Helen Ball praised the effort shown by venues across central Thornbury, saying the White Lion stood out for being decorated inside and out, with clear thought put into marking Pride.

A certificate and prize are due to be presented this week.

The competition formed part of Thornbury’s first Pride event on Saturday, June 6, which took place on the High Street and featured live music, family activities, market stalls and entertainment.

Thornbury parkrun also showed its support, with participants wearing rainbow colours during the weekly event.

Organisers said the support reflects parkrun’s wider commitment to create an inclusive and welcoming environment and to make physical activity and community engagement accessible to all, regardless of background, ability or fitness level.

Thornbury Pride marked a milestone for the town as its first such event, promoting equality, respect and community cohesion. The programme included a magician, mascots, a fun fair, children’s entertainment and a range of local groups.
