Dursley Inner Wheel report by Pauline Darby
PRESIDENT Anne-Marie was in the chair for the 66th AGM of the club and the last meeting of her two-year office.
She welcomed members to the meeting, although she was sad to announce that several members had decided to retire for various reasons, and she wished them well in the future.
Two of our members had met with Dipanwita of the Inner Wheel of Calcutta, who was in this country visiting her daughter.
They were invited to afternoon tea and enjoyed hearing of the work her club was doing.
One of their main projects was raising money for a cervical cancer charity and the regeneration of a village in the mangroves to support widows and their children, as there is no support available for them in India.
The annual Open Door for the handicapped barbeque and sailing on the lake at the Frampton sailing club will see us helping and chatting with their members.
This event is immensely enjoyable for the Open Door members.
The Dursley Summer Festival will see us manning a stall with 'guess the winning number', with the prize being a large hamper of goods.
Dursley Rotary Club has invited us to a skittles match once again, and maybe we will carry home the winning trophy this year.
Anne-Marie reported on what had been achieved during the last year and the monies raised for charity will be distributed at the July meeting, with the Big Space Cancer Appeal being one of the beneficiaries.
She was delighted to present the Menna Wellings Award to our extremely hardworking secretary, Sue Allen.
It was then time to hand over the chain of office to member Jane Ball, who will be our president for 2026/27, with her best wishes for an enjoyable and fruitful year.
Jane thanked Anne-Marie for all she has done for the club and presented her with a bouquet of flowers, along with restaurant vouchers as a small token of the club's appreciation.
The next meeting will be on July 16 at The Tudor Arms, Slimbridge, a business meeting to plan the year ahead.
