A SERIES of overnight road closures are planned in Thornbury later this summer to allow survey work to take place on key routes near The Plain.
South Gloucestershire Council has issued a temporary traffic order covering The Plain, B4061 Gloucester Road and Quaker Lane from July 27, to facilitate ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey works.
The closures are expected to run over four nights between 8pm and 6am, rather than for the full 18 months covered by the legal order, and will only be in force while signs are in place and work is underway.
The affected sections are:
- The Plain, from its junction with B4061 Gloucester Road in a westerly direction for about 45 metres.
- B4061 Gloucester Road, from its junction with The Plain northwards for around 130 metres.
- Quaker Lane, along its entire length.
During the works, signed diversion routes will direct traffic via Castle Street and Park Road, and via parts of the B4061 that remain open, Morton Way and Midland Way.
Drivers are being advised to note that there is a weak bridge with a 17-tonne limit on part of the B4061.
