IT is that time of year again to dust off those radios, turn those dials and tune in ready for Thornbury FM.

As of next Monday, November 2 people living in and around Thornbury will be able to listen to their very own local community radio station.

This will be Thornbury FM’s eighth four-week broadcast since its launch in November 2005.

Listeners to Thornbury FM can expect the same mix of news, music, sport and entertainment from more than 60 local presenters, who will all be giving their time for free during the month long broadcast.

However, change is a foot with Thornbury FM. During this next broadcast more people than ever will be able to tune in because of a relocation of the station’s mast.

The station had been broadcast from an aerial situated on the top of St Mary’s Church hall on Eastbury Road in Thornbury but it has now been moved to higher ground at Grove Farm near the A38.

Rev David Primrose, chairman of Thornbury FM, said: "We are very grateful to the landowner for allowing us to do this and this relocation will allow us to increase the number of people able to listen to Thornbury FM.

"People in Berkeley, Yate, Chepstow and down into Bristol will be able to pick up the station. This time round someone can get in their car in Thornbury and drive to work in Filton and be able to listen to the station the whole way."

Another change expecting to take place during the station’s broadcast is a change of name.

"Because of the larger coverage and the fact it will now cover more than Thornbury we are inviting people to suggest a new name for the radio," said Mr Primrose.

During the first two weeks of the broadcast listeners can make suggestions of new names, in the third week the new name will be decided and during the forth week of broadcast the new name will be announced.

Thornbury FM can be listened to from next Monday, November 2 on 87.7 FM.
