THOUSANDS of people turned out for the Thornbury Christmas lights switch on this week.

Thornbury High Street was packed Tuesday night for the grand switch on, which was this year performed by singer song-writer Nerina Pallot and Thornbury mayor Cllr Phyllida Parsloe.

As well as the annual switch-on there was also a family funfair in the High Street and a Christmas Market in Castle Street for visitors to enjoy.

George Jackson, from the the Thornbury Christmas Lights Association, said: "The switch on went really well. There was a massive turn out of people and with the new Christmas market at the Castle Street end people weren't rushing off.

"Nerina Pallot was very good and she spent a lot of time chatting with people, which was lovely.

"All money raised from the bucket collection on the night will go to the Thornbury In Bloom Committee, which are our chosen charity for this year's switch-on."
