ENGINEERS at Oldbury Power Station have been celebrating after winning an award for their innovation.

Oldbury Power Station was recently named the winner in the Productivity Category in the Idea of the Year competition 2009.

The engineers were given the award for their innovative approach to repairing one of the stations's turbines while the site was still operational, avoiding the need to shut down and saving £3.5 million for the UK taxpayer.

Nigel Spoke, from Oldbury Power Station, said: "It is fantastic to be recognised for our innovative approach amongst our peers from outside the nuclear industry. Oldbury is renowned for innovation and opportunity management, but to lift this award when up against competition from the UK's top companies is a real accolade."
