A NEW community radio station is taking to the airwaves across South Gloucestershire.

GlosS FM will go on air in April next year as the first station solely dedicated to the district.

The station is being set up by Severnvale Media Community Interest Company as an expansion of Thornbury FM, which moved its transmitter and was able to broadcast to more homes.

Thornbury FM launched a public competition to find a name for the new station and GlosS FM will broadcast to listeners in Yate and Chipping Sodbury, Thornbury and Bradley Stoke.

Rev David Primrose, chairman of Thornbury FM, said: "In order to service all these new localities, we seek the support of individuals and businesses from across the whole community.

"We need new members for our management team, as well as sponsors, advertisers and community links."

GlosS FM will transmit programmes on 87.7FM. An application has just been submitted to broadcasting regulator Ofcom for a licence for the new station and if it is approved GlosS FM will go live for four weeks from April 19, 2010.

Anyone interested in joining the new station should visit www.thornburyfm.org or call Mr Primrose on 01454 413209.
