TRIBUTES have been paid to a teenager from Thornbury who died after her car collided with a wall.

The 18-year-old, named locally as Honey Bailey, was a Sixth Form student at The Castle School.

Honey died in the early hours of last Friday when the Peugeot 206 she was driving crashed into a wall along Cuttsheath Road at Milbury Heath.

According to staff at the Castle School, Honey was studying courses in sociology, health and social care, and child development, and was planning to go to university in anticipation of fulfilling her ambition to run her own nursery.

Teachers have described the student as a determined young woman, whose honesty, integrity and quirky sense of humour endeared her to others.

Melanie Warnes, head teacher, said: "Honey enjoyed excellent relationships with her teachers, who along with fellow students, are devastated by her death. We are doing all we can in order to support students at this very difficult time. "There is a genuine sense of loss and grief within the Sixth Form community. Our heartfelt sympathies are extended to Honey’s family."

To support its students the school is providing counselling services, has opened a Book of Condolences and is in close liaison with Honey’s family.

At the scene of the accident flowers, teddy bears, a packet of Oreos and a photograph of Honey had been left.

One message read: "Love you forever Honey. Your friend and boyfriend. Andy."

Another message read: "Will always be in our hearts Honey. RIP GG."

A message of condolence was also left on the Gazette's website.

Chloe Kent, of Thornbury, said: "I love you forever Honey. My best friend always, I'll never forget you. Such a massive part of my life has been taken away. Such a great person, you're an inspiration to me. Rest in peace, Love Chloe xxxxxxxxx."

Police said there were no passengers in the car at the time of the crash and no one else was hurt in the collision.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called just before 1.30am on Friday, March 19 to reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision.

"The vehicle was in collision with a wall. The female driver of the vehicle was taken to Frenchay Hospital but was later pronounced dead."
