GLOSS FM will be hitting the airwaves next week for the station’s first ever broadcast.

GLOSS FM, previously known as Thornbury FM, is expected to reach much of South Gloucestershire and parts of Gloucestershire.

Thornbury FM was originally launched in 2005 but after nine successful broadcasts those behind the community radio station have been able to relocate its aerial to higher ground.

As well as Thornbury, listeners in Yate, Bradley Stoke, Berkeley and Chepstow will be able to tune in for the station’s four-week broadcast, which starts on Monday morning.

Rev David Primrose, chairman of the station, said: "GLOSS FM has an ethos of commitment and service for the local communities and there will be a variety of programmes to suit all tastes."

GLOSS FM is a non-profit making group, which is run entirely by volunteers including 85 presenters.

Thanks to a grant of £2,300 from South Gloucestershire Council, GLOSS FM will be helping to set up radio clubs in schools within the new, wider broadcast area.

Volunteers from the station will help schools to produce broadcast material about all aspects of school life and will help teachers to use radio as an educational tool.

GLOSS FM takes to the airwaves on 87.7fm on Monday, April 19 at 7am for the Breakfast Show with Gary Price and Olly Pinkard.
