TWO toddler groups in Berkeley could be forced to fold if more mums and dads do not join.

The two clubs, which provide support for parents and fun for little ones, cannot afford to pay rental fees at Berkeley Town Hall because they do not have enough members.

The Bumps, Babies and Toddlers group and Stepping Stones club are both run by volunteer mums and are funded entirely by the money parents pay to attend sessions.

Mum-of-three Sam Larkin said: "When I moved to Berkeley from Bristol these groups really helped me to meet other mums and settle into the area.

"My children and I really enjoy the sessions. It would be such a shame if Berkeley lost these services as they are a great way for parents and children to meet and socialise."

Bev Smith, a local mum-of-two and one of the organisers of the groups, said: "The parents who come to the groups all say they really value them, but we need more people just to cover the costs of hiring the hall.

"We really want to keep these groups running for future families as we have all benefited so much from them."

Bumps, Babies and Toddlers is for expectant mums and children up to school age. It is held in Berkeley Town Hall every Wednesday (9.30-11.30am and the cost of £2 a family covers toys, games and activities for the children, a healthy snack and singing session as well as refreshments for parents.

Stepping Stones is for children aged two and above and takes place on Thursdays (9.30–11.30am). There are lots of structured activities including arts and crafts and messy play for parents and children to do together. A snack for children and refreshments for parents are included for £2.50 a family.

The groups are organising a treasure hunt to raise extra cash to pay for hiring the hall. It takes place on Thursday, September 30 (9.30am) from Berkeley Town Hall and all are welcome. There will be refreshments and the cost is £1 a family. Anyone who can donate cakes for the event or would like more information should contact Bev on 01453 511507.
