HAPPY memories of a historic community hall are being sought for an open day event.

If you can remember dancing the night away at the Lister Hall or tapping your toes watching a band or even seeing a boxing match then members of the Chantry Centre committee want to hear from you.

The Chantry Centre is the new name for the charity overseeing the Lister Social Club and Lister Hall in Long Street, Dursley.

The charity was formed as a way to raise funds to keep the hall open for future generations, as the building had fallen into disrepair.

A new roof has already been installed to stop the leaks and a planning application has been permitted for a new forum style entrance to be built on the front of the hall.

At an open day this Saturday, from 10am to 12pm, people will be able to see the designs on display including the improvements to the facilities inside.

While the Chantry Centre is looking to the future, it also wants to look back at the building's rich history.

People are invited to bring along photos and memorabilia to share at the open day.

Geoff Wheeler, chairman of The Chantry Centre, said: "Have you got programmes or photos from dances you went to, bands you heard or fights you attended in the Lister Hall?

"Did you sing or perform in the hall or did you win a cup for playing skittles?

"Many people will also have memories or photos of working for Listers and eating their lunch in the building – and we’d like them to come along on Saturday morning to tell us their memories and show us any memorabilia they have from past events at the hall."

The event will also be a chance for people to become a member of the Chantry Centre and sign up for newsletters.

There will be displays of all the activities that regularly take place at the hall, from short mat bowls and skittles to dancing and snooker.
